Things to Do this September in San Diego
There are great things to do all year round in this city which has so much to see, and so much to participate in. September is certainly no exception, as there are several special events held at this time of year, and if you happen to be visiting the area, you should mark these down on your calendar. Whatever you do, you can count on doing it in terrific weather, since this sun-drenched metro area enjoys gorgeous sunshine on an average of 270 days out of 365.
While this event normally is held for a week-long period in September, this year the beloved foodie experience will enjoy a full month in the area, from September 15th through October 15th. Many of the best restaurants in the entire city will be participating, and you’ll have the opportunity to sample some of their specialty dishes and entrees, either right in-house, through outdoor dining experiences, or on a takeout basis if you prefer.
While this iconic piece of American culture has virtually disappeared from the rest of the country, it is still thriving in South Bay and East County, where the experience is still available to fans and followers. These theaters provide state-of-the-art projectors, multiple screens so you can choose your movie, and guaranteed good weather for outdoor viewing. You can take the whole family to the drive-in for far less than it would cost you at an indoor movie theater, and the concessions are much cheaper. You’ll also have the option of bringing your own food and snacks if you prefer.
California Wine Month
Just a short drive from wherever you are on the beachfront, you’ll be able to find a number of well-established California vineyards. September is one of the best times of the year to enjoy a wine-tasting experience at any one of these outstanding wine-producers. Sample a few and decide which ones you’d like to purchase, so you can take home a great reminder of your trip to a California vineyard.
California Surfing Day
Surfing has been designated as the official sport of California, and for many residents of the area, it’s even more than that – it’s almost a way of life. Even if you’re a complete novice, you’ll undoubtedly feel the same kinds of thrills associated with riding a fast-moving wave into shore. There are quite a few ideal locations along the beachfront which provide these kinds of thrilling waves, but you’ll find the biggest gatherings of surf-lovers at the legendary La Jolla stretch of beach.
With more than 70 miles of beachfront in the area, there are literally endless opportunities to become involved in one or more water activities. If you just want to have some fun and splash around, you’ll enjoy all the great areas for swimming and paddle-boarding. You might also want to seek out some snorkeling opportunities, so you can get a glimpse of underwater marine life. If you’re a fisherman, there are many charter boats which will take you out for a terrific day on the ocean, so you can land that big lunker. And if you just want to plant a lounge chair on the shoreline and let the sun warm you inside and out, you’ll have endless choices for where to setup.
