Mission Hills is a residential community in greater San Diego, and since it is situated on the hills overlooking San Diego Bay and the Old Town, it offers a number of tremendous scenic vistas which can be appreciated by both residents and visitors to the area. At Pioneer Park, you will be able take a beautiful evening stroll, or attend one of the many live music events which are staged throughout the year.
Since Mission Hills is very close to the spectacular Balboa Park, you’ll also be able to take your kids there to enjoy all the amusements and attractions of that terrific venue. Your kids will love the arcade, the bumper cars, and the thrill-ride roller coaster which reaches speeds at near 50 miles an hour. Mission Hills is also close to the San Diego Zoo, which is legendary for its housing of some of the most exotic animals on the planet, as well as some impressive domestic creatures.
The San Diego Natural History Museum is also nearby, and this is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon or a full day learning about wildlife, and nature in general. There are tons of small shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafés, and sidewalk bistros where you will be able to relax and take in the full flavor of this area, so you can really gain an appreciation of it.

If you’re an outdoorsy sort of person, there are also a number of hiking trails available, ranging from the very easy to the moderately difficult. You’ll definitely want to sample some of the terrific food offered by area restaurants, for instance Harley Gray Kitchen and Bar, or Izakaya Masa. Anyone who really enjoys a great cheese, will be sure to want to visit the Vennisimo Cheese outlet, where a number of gourmet cheeses from around the world are available for purchase.
Situated just north of downtown San Diego, west of the Hillcrest community, and south of San Diego River Valley, Mission Hills is one of San Diego’s oldest neighborhoods, and also one of its most desirable. This is a mostly residential area, although a number of commercial interests are also included within its borders to serve residents and visitors.
Everyone who visits the area quickly becomes aware of the impressive architecture evidenced by neighborhood structures, with many homes having been built in the early 1900’s. A large number of these have been preserved and restored to their original condition, so that they reflect the styles of a bygone era, even while they are still functional today.
A number of much more modern homes were built around the Canyon Rims in the 1950’s and 1960’s, and these have become very stately homes, now in great demand. There are also a number of charming craftsman bungalows, as well as huge mansions which are preserved in close to original condition, on a number of peaceful streets throughout the community. The compact business district of Mission Hills provides an eclectic combination of shops, services, pubs, cafés, and restaurants, all of which are distinctive in their own way.
