Mission Beach is known throughout this country for its gorgeous two miles of oceanfront directly adjacent to the Pacific, and for the boardwalk which winds its way throughout the ocean side of the community as well as the bay side of the community. If you’re not into sunbathing and swimming, there are still a great many outdoor activities which will appeal to you in the Mission Beach area. Nets are always set up at the South Mission Beach, so that you will be able to park your vehicle at any time, and quickly become involved in a volleyball game which is just starting. Many people visit the area to enjoy the world-class surfing which is available, and from a surprising source – the man-made wave generator available at Wave House.
Mission Beach is also extremely close to the awe-inspiring Belmont Park, with its thrilling roller coaster, the Giant Dipper. This world-class coaster can achieve speeds of 48 miles an hour, and if you’re not too terrified to look up, you’ll get a spectacular view of the ocean during the ride. There are of course, a number of other tremendous attractions and rides available at Belmont Park, for instance playing mini-golf or laser tag, so that there’s something to do for everyone in your group.
Restaurants and picnicking
There are many great restaurants to choose from in Mission Beach, beginning with Draft South Mission, and The Mission. There is also a great nightlife scene here for younger adults, and for those older adults who are still young at heart. Simply by taking a short walk over the main street running through Mission Beach, you’ll come to the serene waters of Mission Bay, which is home to Sea World San Diego, a number of grassy parks, picnic tables, playgrounds, miles of sidewalks, and the largest aquatic Park made by man.
You’ll be able to take a scenic bike ride, rent a sailboat for an afternoon, or just watch your kids enjoying themselves in this gorgeous, sun-drenched playground. If you are a fisherman, you’ll enjoy good fishing at the end of South Mission Beach Park, where it’s possible to cast right off the pier, and while you’re waiting for a bite, you can observe the harbor traffic coming in and out of the channel.
If you’re into underwater exploration, you will really enjoy the fact that there are a number of shipwrecks just 1/2 mile off the coast, all of which were installed there for the purpose of underwater exploration, as well as to create an artificial reef for area wildlife. Probably the biggest attraction in the area is Belmont Park, with its awesome roller coaster, arcade, and bumper cars.
However, there are so many other activities which can be enjoyed in the area that it remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in this country. In addition to the magnificent scenery of the ocean itself and that around Mission Bay, there are literally endless activities to engage in such as bicycling, jogging, and walking right along the boardwalk.
