City Heights is a well-known residential community included within the confines of greater San Diego and it takes in an area approximately 5.8 mi.² in size, right in the heart of the city. It has a population of approximately 105,000 individuals, most of whom are renters, although there are also some outstanding dwellings which are also featured in this neighborhood. Residential property management services in San Diego recommend this area to all who might be interested.
The region has a colorful history which goes all the way back to the 1880’s, when something like 400 people originally took up residence in the area. In a short period of time, that number grew to over 4,000 and the region took on the name of East San Diego. Eventually in 1923, East San Diego was annexed into the city proper, and it became one of the most prominent communities in the greater metro area.
Community activities and offerings
People who are active will love the green space which is included within the community, for instance Teralta Park, which includes facilities for basketball courts as well as football and soccer fields, all of which find a high level of usage by residents. For the younger set, a good-sized playground provides lots of equipment for children to enjoy themselves, and to have a great deal of fun in a safe setting.
There are also some opportunities provided for experiencing nature by taking a scenic hike, for instance along the Manzanita Canyon Trail. This is a beautiful trail which residents of the area rave about, because of its heavily wooded, but very easy to follow route through the forest. In places, it can be a little rocky, but those areas always flatten out and become very easy for hikers to navigate through.
Some of the restaurants you will find in this area are the Chiquita Mexican restaurant, the Canada Steak Burger, and Nate’s Garden Grill, to name just a few. Depending on what you’re in the mood for, you should be able to find terrific eating at any one of the excellent restaurants within the city limits here.
City Heights is also well known for its ethnic diversity, and if you walk down any of the main streets through this community (El Cajon Boulevard, Fairmount Avenue, and University Avenue), you will undoubtedly encounter a number of different ethnicities. For instance, there is a strong Hispanic element, as well as Near Eastern, North East African, Southeast Asian, and several other backgrounds as well.
Many of these families were recent immigrants who have now settled into the region comfortably, and who have started up their own businesses, bringing a cultural diversity to the area which is not found elsewhere in the city. Because of all these recent immigrant arrivals and business startups, you’ll find a very high concentration of restaurants, retail outlets, and other self-employed businesses which these individuals have founded. This tends to be very active community, with a strong pedestrian flavor throughout the community, because most places can be easily walked to, and because residents have a high rate of engagement with each other.
