Named East San Diego on November 2, 1912, the population boomed from 400 to 4000 in just a few short years. City Heights was considered East San Diego until it was annexed into the City of San Diego in 1923. The trail’s surface begins rocky but smooths out and remains that way and is shaded by a heavily wooded and easy to follow route.
