Bay Park embraces an area approximately five square miles wide in the greater San Diego area, and it is home to roughly 29,000 residents, of which more than half are renters, while the remainder own homes. From some of the higher elevations in the community, it’s easy to see the Pacific Ocean off to the west, and it’s much easier to glimpse Hewlett Bay, just to the south of Bay Park.

At the southeast corner of the community, you’ll find the Bay Park Golf Course, so avid golfers won’t have far to travel in order to test themselves on a great venue that provides loads of challenges. If you don’t mind taking a short drive down the road, you can also try your luck at Tecolote Canyon Golf Course, and you’ll find a number of other gorgeous courses all within driving distance of Bay Park.

Local amenities

If you’re a pet lover, you can enjoy a walk with your pooch every day right in the community, at the Bay Park Dog Park. Not only will your dog really love it, but you’ll get in some great exercise yourself, so it will be beneficial for you both. For sailing aficionados, the Hewlett Point Yacht Club has its headquarters right on Hewlett Bay itself, and you’ll be able to set sail whenever the sea calls to you. Just east of the Grand Canal, you can take the kiddies to the impressive Bay Park Playground, where all kinds of facilities are provided for youngsters to enjoy themselves in a safe and appealing environment.

Local eateries feature such terrific dining as the Bay Park Fish Company, where as you might guess, the finest in seafood is always available. You might also want to try the Farmer’s Table or the Baci Restaurant, if you like Italian foods. A great many of the area businesses are actually owned by residents of the community, so it makes for a very friendly atmosphere, and a sense of belonging to the community. Like most other communities out in the great American west, Bay Park features some really beautiful vistas, and there are any number of short little drives you can take to get out of the residential area and find yourself among the rivers, streams, mountains, canyons, and mesas.

There’s easy access to the San Diego Freeway from within the community, and the Amtrak train system services the community as well, so transportation around the community is a breeze. The two biggest streets in the community are Morena Boulevard and West Morena Boulevard, and they both run north-south, hosting a number of restaurants, shops, lively clubs and bars, and charming little bistros. You’ll also find two of the best micro-breweries in the entire region along these same two streets.

Of the four communities which overlook San Diego’s 4,600 acre aquatic wonderland, Bay Park may be the least well known, but it is quickly gaining more and more attention. In a recent reader’s poll conducted by a San Diego magazine, Bay Park was voted San Diego’s most livable neighborhood, so it’s definitely on the radar now.
